INTRO TO SCREENWRITING

Let's get the basics down. You have stories to tell, and you'd like to see them translated to the big screen. Tristin wants to encourage you and equip you with the tools to make that dream a reality.

Who is Tristin Morton? She's a professional screenwriter and script consultant who's worked in the film and television industry for fifteen years. She's relocated to the unceded territory of the Lekwungen people (aka Victoria) and wants to share her expertise with those with an interest in screenwriting.

This introduction to screenwriting is for BEGINNERS – that includes first time writers to experienced authors looking to learn the craft of screenwriting.

THE LESSONS:

Class 1

Character + Plot

IN PERSON @ KWENCH (2031 Store Street)

Learn how to develop complex protagonists, antagonists, and supporting characters, as well as how to drive the plot forward based on their motivations and actions.

* There is 1 writing assignment in this course that is meant to be easy, fun, and informative. We will discuss in this first lesson. 


Class 2

Structure

GOOGLE MEET

Learn the three-act structure of a screenplay and the elements of a well-constructed scene.


Class 3

Dialogue + Action

GOOGLE MEET

Learn the art of dialogue and how to write effective action. We will be reading aloud from examples.


Class 4

Outlining

GOOGLE MEET

Learn what your process is and what to be aware of when outlining. We'll touch on various pitch material, then discuss the assignment, which will be due the Monday before the next class.


Class 5

Critique

GOOGLE MEET

Learn how to respectfully critique the work of your peers using what you've learned in this course. Don't be nervous. It'll be as low stakes as possible with an emphasis on constructive criticism.
